Some of you have seen the lyrics for my new song go up on my blog over the last few days. What you don’t know from reading them is that this has been the scariest song I’ve ever written, for one very simple reason:

In this song I sing in a lot of falsetto (very high voice)…

and it scares the CRAP out of me ‘cos up until a few years ago I thought I would NEVER be able to sing falsetto! I though you either had it or you didn’t…and I thought I didn’t. Now here I am doing it! Amazing how impossible sometimes just equals time plus a willingness to get things wrong for a while until you get better at them! There’s a whole story behind my journey into falsetto, but I’ll tell you that another time!

Simply put, fear is sometimes one of the things which holds us back from reaching our full potential. Singing this song is me telling fear to go get fucked.

For now, I have recorded and uploaded a first version of the song to youtube, check it out below:

The lyrics one more time (third time in as many days I’ve posted them on my blog, I really do like them, heh)

Told you I was crazy
As we sat upon the sun
Laughed with everyone
Who passed us by

All you would say was maybe
As I left you on the moon
Gave myself more room
To watch you shine

We’re all gonna shine

Golden shadows in the afternoon
We’re lost in wonder at what we’ve been through
Golden shadows in the afternoon
We’re making love
It’s all we do
All we do
All we do

Told you I was crazy
As we sank into the earth
Found value in our birth
Deep in the ground

All you would say was maybe
Then we began to bloom
Shone brighter as we grew
Up to the clouds

We’re all gonna grow

Golden shadows in the afternoon
We’re lost in wonder at what we’ve been through
Golden shadows in the afternoon
We’re making love
It’s all we do
All we do
All we do

Told you I was crazy
As we danced upon the sky
Shook petals from our eyes
To line the road

All you would say was maybe
And then you showed me why
We’re more than getting by
We’re going home

We’re all going home

A huge thanks to my house-mates for putting up with me playing this song hundreds of times in the last week. They still seem happy when I play it…lucky me 😀

Also major kudos to Laura for creating some beautiful artwork inspired by some of the lyrics from this song! YAY!
